What are the Signs You Might Have Tongue Tension When You Sing (and Why Does it Happen)?

If there’s one part of the whole singing puzzle that causes more issues than any other…

it’d be the tongue.

An overactive or tense tongue can make your voice sound thin, swallowed, nasal and strained (amongst other things).

It can wreak havoc on your resonance, your placement and the way you’re able to project and move between notes.

So being able to identify if it’s causing trouble is really important (and potentially life-changing).

So in this video I’ll share the warning signals that you might be dealing with an overly excited tongue AND the reasons WHY.

Because the tongue is really just misunderstood.

He’s not a bad guy, he’s trying to HELP you (it’s just that his help often creates more problems than it solves).

Understanding his goals though is the first step to unravelling the tension and the unhelpful relationship.

I’d love for you to share your reflections below.

Do you experience any of the symptoms of tongue tension, and if so, what do you think it’s trying to achieve for you?
